Description

Miners Beach Falls is a small, easily accessible waterfall at the extreme east end of Miners Beach. Your kids will like it, because there's plenty of rock, and some low ledges, that they can climb on.

Directions

The simplest directions I can give are to tell you to go to Miners Beach, which is a well known tourist location, and walk east along the beach for about 3000 feet until you come to the falls. To get to the beach from downtown Munising, follow these steps:

  1. Go east out of town on H-58. You'll climb a hill, and the road will eventually level out.
  2. Keep an eye on the left side of the road. You'll pass a golf course, and you'll eventually come to Miners Castle Road. The road is well marked by a brown, National Lakeshore sign.
  3. Turn left (north) on Miners Castle Road.
  4. Follow Miners Castle Road north. You'll pass Carmody road where it comes in on your left. Then you'll curve drastically to the right. Watch the signs for a turn to the right that will take you downhill to the beach parking area.
  5. Follow the well-marked trail from the parking area to the beach itself.

Once at the beach, you just follow the shoreline east for 3000 feet. You can't miss the falls—they are at the point where the sand runs out and the cliffs meet the lack. You won't be able to walk much beyond the falls, so there's no risk of overshooting the mark.

There is a quicker path in to these falls as well. While driving on the dirt road down to the beach parking area, you'll see a road going off to the right that takes you to a trailhead for the Lakeshore Trail. Drive down that road until it ends, park in the parking area, and follow the Lakeshore Trail north for a few hundred feet until it hits the beach.
