5. Cement Spillway

This old, cement spillway and gate assembly is only a few dozen feet upstream from the top of the falls. I have absolutely no idea what purpose it ever used to serve. However, Gregg Bruff, one of the park rangers, tells me that there used to be a house (or more properly a shack) on this spot.

The stream currently loops around the spillway, and comes back around just a couple feet to the left of what you see in this photo.
