Escanaba River State Forest — A state forest near Limestone and Chatham. I like hiking in it, but there are no developed trails. You have to be willing to bushwack, and make your own fun.

Kingston Plains — It's not real close to Munising, but if you have half a day to spare, you can visit the stump fields in this burned over area about halfway between Munising and Grand Marais off of H-58. The Kingston Plains burn area is significant, because when the area burned decades ago, the devastation was so bad that the land has even now barely begun to recover.
